ignition advice please

#1 PostAuthor: dave cullen » Sun May 18, 2014 8:52 pm

I have had my Z900 at a well qualified guy for some work, as despite carb rebuild it was still running cool on one cylinder; he blew it through with air line and its better, but he says it is over advanced on two cylinders and he couldn't adjust it as on some kind of non standard ignition system, however, apparently, as I have found, it just manifests itself on bit more lumpy tickover; would anyone care to give me a a steer on whether a dyna tec electronic ignition would be the way to go? thanks guys

Dyna is the way to go to sort the timing but just the one cylinder being cool and lumpy tickover squarely points to the either the pilot system on that cylinder, an iffy spark plug or air leak on the inlet.
Could also be a few other things if say the valve clearance on that cyllinder is tight or a valve not seating etc but this should easily show up on a compression or leakdown test..
