Have opened up one carb, found a white plastic main jet with 125 on it?

Does this still ring true to being part of a corrector / performance kit?

Carb very sticky inside but visibly not overly gummed....

Not seen plastic jets before but i wasnt born when these were around in real time :D

Did a bit of rummaging about and found this.
Column headings from left are;
S&B filter number, number of cylinders, standard jet, re-jet size, jet style, air corrector kit no. or nozzle no.

Ok so stripped carbs, gave them a good clean and rebuilt with Keyster kits from NRP and fitted 40 pilots and 140 mains as per a recommendation from Wired George.

Bike starts and runs really well now so seem to have made some good progress.

Only thing now is I have the occasional puff back through the k&n pod filter on number one cylinder, ok on all the other pots.

I still have to fine tune the air screw settings and check the balance with vacuum gauges across the four. Might these actions address the above mentioned puff / hiss back or is it a symptom of another fault?

Thanks

See earlier; if it spits / pops back a little on occasions then they are set about right.
To confirm; set the fuel heights to the correct level /balance with gauges / set fuel enrichment screws using a colour tune to just a little rich... of the visible colour transition from weak to rich as outlined in the instructions.
This is likely to be key since you now have increased airflow you will need to enrich to compensate.

Exactly what are the fuel screws doing at this time. How many turns out from lightly seated are they???
FYI fuel enrichment screws on CV's are; turn outward 'anticlockwise' to richen and not as it says in the manual.

After the carbs were reassembled, I set them all to 2 turns out.
As I said, it is only on no 1 cylinder carb. Happens about once every 10 - 15 seconds.
Not sure that it is much to worry about, though a quick scan of the Internet sort of implies that spit/puff back is down to being too lean so will do a plug chop and get the colourtune out.
Cheers
l will let you know what I find.

If it's still spitting back then remember also to recheck your valve clearances :!:

It would appear that the jubilee clip engine side of no.1 carb was loose and so when tightened the spitting back has stopped.

Balanced carbs anyway, they definitely needed doing!

Just the mixture screws / color tune to do, that will have to wait until Sunday.

MOT on Saturday, wish me luck!

Yee haa!
She takes off like a scalded cat, can't believe it is only two valves per cylinder!

Thanks for all the helpful contributions along the way .
