Bloody annoying oil leak...

#1 PostAuthor: chrisNI » Mon May 05, 2014 8:22 pm

Got a small but annoying oil leak at the rev counter drive on my Z1000 - it leaks down the cable then drips off, it's very slight but when you're riding it blows off and goes all over the exhaust downpipes. I'm thinking it's the O ring on the drive, although that's between the head and drive and the oil's getting into the cable not coming out round the edges, so is it possible a worn drive? Anyone had this before and what was it? I guess oil shouldn't be coming out there as there's no O ring to seal the cable?

replace the o ring on the drive housing also the oil seal. make sure the drive gear shaft is perfectly smooth where it comes through the oil seal . fit one of these between the cable & the drive housing

Thanks for that. So there's an oil seal in the drive then guess that's never been changed so probably supect. And that fibre washer that obviously should be there must have been lost years ago
