Engine Turnover

#1 PostAuthor: Wayne1960 » Thu May 01, 2014 6:49 am

Is it safe to spin my engine over from the electric start? The engine is full of new oil but I still have the tank and carbs to fit.
Just keen to make sure it all works and is connected up ok.
I quickly did it last night be impatient and it all seemed ok but the oil light came on.
Any concerns?
Just purchased a 1976 UK Z900 A4 for renovation. Wish me luck.
Bike now finished what a joy!

When you spin the motor on the starter, the oil light should go out after a few seconds. The light will come back on as soon as you release the starter button if the motor didn`t start up.
If it ain`t broke.....don`t fix it

Perfect that's exactly what it did. Phew!
So when you turn ignition back on the oil light should come on?

If you have just rebuilt the engine I would not try to start it to you have turn the engine over by hand first remove the points cover and turn the engine using a spanner
