GPz 1100 B2 wiring diagram anyone?

#1 PostAuthor: losclarkos » Tue Apr 22, 2014 8:07 pm

Evening all. Although I have a scanned copy of the workshop manual the wiring diagram is just not clear enough to follow. The problem I have is that if I connect the sidestand switch spring up so that the switch is operating correctly the bike won't start. No starter motor. Nothing. I know this is a safety feature and it is pretty simple to run without the spring but I HATE THINGS NOT WORKING
So, does anyone have a clearer diagram and/or can explain the routing. I'm pretty sure the neutral light comes in here somewhere but should there be a clutch switch as well? I'm also pretty sure that there are diodes and stuff somewhere so I don't want to go playing with too much until I can at least follow the cables.

Hi z1bman.

With the spring connected and the stand down the warning lights flash and go off when the stand is put up. So that side of things is working fine. There are four wires at the switch. 2 coloured and 2 black. The 2 coloured ones are to do with the warning light I think. I can trace the black ones back through the headlight to the rhs handlebar switch. What I'm not sure about is what happens then. How do these black wires manage to cut out the starter motor?. Fuel pump is on, everything else is working. The wiring diagram looks like they are the "starter motor lockout switch" but how does is work? Any help gratefully received.

Ha, I knew I was missing something!!!!!

It's still not obvious, from the wiring diagram that I have, how that works and I can't find it anywhere else either. I guess that the clutch has to be pulled to get the starter to fire? Sorry to be a bit thick but I bought the bike as a non runner. How is it wired in? And can I by-pass it temporarily but leave the warning light working? Thanks. Steve

i am not sure where the clutch switch is connected but its either in the headlight shell or under the fuel tank. two black wires just join them together

OK. Now I know what I'm looking for I'll have another rummage in the headlight. Waiting for the return of the repaired Metmachex swingarm bosses from the repair shop as they seem to have hammered themselves to pieces cos the spindle had been butchered. The joys of owning (buying?) ageing classic bikes. Especially when you're in Spain and explaining woodruff key to my spanish engineering friend took about an hour. :D

Thanks Adrian. I've downloaded that one but the wiring diagram comes out so hazy that it is difficult to follow things through. It's not the end of the world if it doesn't work properly but just annoying when everything else about the bike is just great. I think the engine management unit is in there somewhere as well but I just can't read the diagrams clearly enough to be sure. I think I'll just take the spring off! :D

Now I'm completely flummoxed.
Just noticed (doh!) a small switch on the lhs handlebar which says side stand. How could I miss it? Well, actually the white paint that said "side stand" disappeared long ago. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.
Thought to myself, firstly, what a t**t then tried it. Nothing. Bugger. So I took it apart, as you do, and tried the meter across it and sure enough I get 12 volts across the two wires when its pressed. But it makes no difference to the starting or rather lack of, when the sidestand is down. Not only that, I can't see any reference to this button in the service manual nor anywhere else nor to a clutch switch.
If anyone has the Clymer manual for this bike does that have a clear wiring diagram and a basic explanation of how the starter circuit works, with the lockout switches etc? If so, I'll just buy one and be damned but not gonna do that if it proves to be useless. Cheers all.
ps just starting to warm up here in Southern Spain so great biking weather. :vcool

the side stand button on the left hand switch is to prevent the engine from cutting out while you put the side stand down & rest the motorcycle on it. you have to keep the button pressed until the motorcycle is fully on the stand then if you release the button the engine will still be running. if you lift the motorcycle of the side stand without pressing in the button it will cut the motor
