i took Z's advise and backed off the adjusting screw. i think he was correct and the adjuster had locked off.
Also put more grease. was a little lite with that trying to keep everything clean.
It was good to get it wrong as i spent more time trying to get it right.
I need to sort the squeak which is very feint but annoying.
Any thoughts on changing the gears or should i wait. i only have the bottom engine built.

Just purchased a 1976 UK Z900 A4 for renovation. Wish me luck.
