Clutch basket

#1 PostAuthor: mark d » Tue Feb 11, 2014 6:45 pm

Me z1000a1 has started to rattle sounds like from clutch / gearbox area the motors been stripped and all bearings are ok but there is play in the clutch basket which none of the main suppliers can get any more , has any one had a bearing rattle from this before ? I've had the bike for 34 years and its never been apart until now

Contact Gez635 or Al Marshal, both on here & can be contacted via PM.
I think one if not both of them can replace the springs in your clutch basket.

Cheers, I've spoken to ray debben today and he was going to look at the clutch basket to see if it was not to far gone to re spring it . When you find a bearing gone its simple but not finding one gone is a head ache ,I will of course be replacing them all .

Mark,
Have you removed the clutch plates and checked that the caged needle bearing and the inner bush are a good fit? If you can detect a lot of movement then it's probably not worth spending money on replacing springs until you've replaced the bearing or sleeve or both.

To be on the safe side I will have every bearing changed whilst it's apart and fit a new cam chain etc , I don't mind spending the money on my bike as it's the first problem I've had in our 34 years together :D

Also - be well worth checking the alternator rotor - they do work loose over the years
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
