B3 mK11 Emission control system removal

#1 PostAuthor: PAULJAC47 » Sun Dec 15, 2013 3:53 pm

Guyz, bit of info req on removal B3 emission system,at the mo its linked out at the top of the rocker cover with a piece of pipe, when i took rocker cover off the spring steel flaps had been removed in the emision valves this area was well carboned up,with the spring valves removed i am a bit concerned that exhaust gases may be back feeding, was thinking of blanking off the gas intakes into the rocker with a plug of some sort any issues i should be aware of? did notice exhaust cam shells were a bit discoloured on the external surface cant really see were this has come from?have just heard of one case were the exhaust intakes to the valves have been blocked off and the bike now wont run, this seems weird to me cant see how this would affect running?
Any input including" witty" comments appreciated...Paul J..

i cannot see that it would affect the running its only there to recycle unburnt crank case gases into the exhaust port? you can blank the ports off on top of the head with some aluminium blank's made from aluminium rod + do the same on the valve covers where the breather pipes attach

Hi Z1b man, i agree i cant see how it would affect running(see post) its another bike,my concern is that looking at a flow diagram (i have just found) the exhaust gases are able to flow back into adjacent cylinders,as the metal valves on the emmsion valves are missing,i am indeed now going to blankoff the channels from the exhaust valves..Cheers PaulJ

Hi Geoff how goes it? did you use a Uk gasket? i guess the uk cover blanks off the emmision ports, what got me thinking on this. is in a z1000j book i have which said if the emmision valves are not operating correctly ti can make running and tickover unstable!

i think you must blank of the port in the cylinder head as the uk rocker cover does not cover the port + you would get flames coming out of the port? that's why there are two different cover & gaskets. you can use the usa gasket on the uk model but not the uk gasket on the usa model
