main jets ?

#3 PostAuthor: snotie1965 » Wed Sep 25, 2013 4:40 pm

Cheers for that , a really simple thing like `plug gaps` ! but i am very rusty, last gpz11,i owned was a B2 back over 20 years ago !!

Have you a approx size of main jets on the gpz11 ut with lawson carbs (34 mm) ,open bell mouths and short, but big down piped 4-1 ?
I am guessing 140-150 in that range somewhere ?

I know it will come down to `plug chopping` in the end ! but a bit of info might save me spending loads of dosh on jets ? I USED to have a baccie tin full of (sets of 4) main jets , but as time goes on and on and on and on ,,,,,,,,,,,,ect ect loose stuff ,or give stuff away ,.

Any advice always appreciated , Andy ......

carbs

#4 PostAuthor: KWACKERZ1 » Wed Sep 25, 2013 4:50 pm

kz1000r bs34 carb settings standard are:
Main jet 127.5
needle jet y-4
jet needle 5C48-3
CLIP POSITION 2ND GROOVE FROM TOP
PILOT JET 37.5
STARTER JET 45
MAIN AIR JET 85
PILOT AIR JET 350
PILOT SCREW 2 TURNS OUT
FLOAT HEIGHT 18.6MM

with your set up I would have thought 132.5's would be a good start or 135's

150'S Way to big in my opinion. But each bike can be different and CV'S are different to slides,
but at least you have the standard settings to work from.

Are you racing the bike? I would not run open carb's at all. Just as a matter of interest I had my gpz11 dyno'd and it lost power running open carb's the best results were with bell mouths and ramair sock filters (the type that goes over two bell mouths) 125bhp (1170) with 130 mains, if you want to run the carb's open I would run 140's and hope you don't suck a bird or stone in

Thanks for the reply, No i am not racing it ! but it gets ridden hard !

I am using bell-mouths ,but they are open with no gauze or foam, i had the single foam type S&B`s on it but they started to fall to pieces !
The pipe is un-known ,i think `yoshi` ?? it is a 4-1 O.D of down pipes is 38 mm ,it has a link pipe with a factory welded in baffel ,O.D is 70 mm, but i have no end can !

The motor is being re-built over the winter , so it is only a temporary fix for the next couple of months ,so i can have a bit of fun on it and test all the other bits out ,ie, re-built front forks ,rear shock, re-done a lot of the wireing ect ect ...

When i got the bike it had been neglected and it ran,but very rough ,so all i have done is save it from being broken up for spares .
