My dads z1000j running like a sick dog !!!

#1 PostAuthor: marve114 » Mon Aug 19, 2013 10:24 am

Guys need some help
Dad has had the carbs on and off cleaned them out etc etc
He is running a fuel filter

Harris 4 into 1
K&n filters

Now it has standard pilot jets
150 mains that I think is a little on the large side

I don't know what he has the air screws set out to but it's fouling plugs ( soot )

And missing and like hissing back through the carbs ?

Any ideas or suitable settings for the above mods

Just found that 2 of the air intake plugs you use to balance the carbs had popped off
Replaced them and now running better

According to the manual
main=127.5
needle y-6
jet needle 5flz50-3
pilot jet 37.5
starter jet 1:65
starter jet 2:0.8
main air jet: 85
pilot air jet 1 :170
pilot air jet 2: 210
pilot air screw 1 1/4 turns out.

Hope these help if your vac tubes have not solved the problem, might be worth checking you have 12v at the coils to as sooty plugs is a symptom of low coil volts.

Marve if your not allready sorted go down on your main to 135, set everything else as factory to give yourself a starting point. You will need to go up on the pilot jet. CV carbs are fine with pod filters once dialed in, my own J runs fine allthough it took several attempts to get wright . Try an internet search on for the tuning of CV carbs, understanding what you are doing and why helps :mink: Another alternative would be to buy a Dynojet kit, the kits needles are supposed to flow better than the stock ones
