EYUP!
Its come time to do a proper sevice on my Z1 Harris. Probably airbrush the bodywork while its apart too of course. :) Got a full gasket set cheap off ebay just in case! ;). Got plugs, oil, filter, etc sitting here already. Even got a mate gonna weld up my knackered exhaust stud holes and helicoil them from fresh for sod all!
My only problem really is the valve shims. Can probably swap a couple round, but gonna need to buy some from somewhere. No bike shops anywhere nearby as live in middle of nowhere. Basically I need somewhere that does em cheap.
Anyone used anywhere they can recommend?

Jon,
One of the cheapest I've found is Klasmo in Germany they sell used shims for ?2.13 and new pattern ones for ?3.84 which is about ?2.75
You can get to the Klasmo site from the Links page.
If you are a paid-up member you can use the club's shim exchange service for free! I used this recently and it worked a treat.

Jon, try http://www.z1enterprises.com , used couple of times and it's quality service, you can pay by paypal, shipping from States turns out to be cheaper than internal UK and takes 3-4 days for delivery

Cheers for the suggestions guys. Gives me a few options n such.
Im not a paid up member, just a forum member. As much as I like this site I wouldnt be cheeky enough to sign up just to get use of the shim swap service, as handy as it would be.
I have great respect for this site and the wealth of technical knowhow of its members, however Im a member of another national club already. Streetfighters are where my heart lies Im afraid to say.

Ok made a start. Had to take out all but one engine bolt/plates and pivot engine in frame several inches to clear frame spars and get cam cover off! Great design Harris! Exhaust clearances are close to the recommended 0.004 in. gap so no problems there. Some are slightly larger and some are slightly smaller gaps. Nothing untowards there. Just a quick shim swap on those.
Inlet clearances as close as damnit to zero tho. How can you work out what shim to get if you cant measure the gap??
Does it really mean taking out the cams, buying 4 of the smallest shims available (2.00mm?) and bolting it all back together to get accurate readings?? What a pain in the arse!
Anyone got (4x) tiny shims they would like to lend me for measuring purposes and I can post them back?

Jon -it's a race frame - what do you expect! Take rear exhaust mount off, all back engine bolts and rhs plate, carb filters, loosen front mount and slowly let back of engine drop ( I use an old car scissors jack, cam box will then come out, tightly!
Inlets - does the shim / cam bucket rotate freely if so take it as 0, for the ones which won't turn then you want to stick a smaller shim in and measure it if you try to measure off the bucket directly it will probably knacker something when you turn the cam to take the tool out. Take a note of what size shims you have in where and then next time you will only have to gap them to know what shims you require.
PM me with contact details and I'll send you a 205

Yup thats the exact way I got the cover off in the end.
Decided to do the shims on re-assembly. Couldnt accurately measure them cos some numpty had stripped couple of threaded holes holding on one of the cam retainer plates and not done anything about it except put the cam cover back on again. Wasnt clamped down properly! :( Amazingly no sign of wear on anything tho so must have got lucky!
Taken head off and boxed up ready to send to my mate for alloy welding/helicoiling the dodgy exhaust studs, etc.
