frigin air box ducts on ELR - how do you get them on

I've spent the best part of an afternoon trying to get the airbox ducts onto the carbs. They push inside the air box, they don't fit, I can't reach tem,... what a stupid design...
I've tried pulling them out and fitting them to the carbs first but they just fall off. If I had any hair I would be pulling it out. Am I missing something or shoud I just get some new ones?

Do not know about an ELR, but on a Z1000A2 had to buy new ones as old ones were not flexible enough, and could nt get them on. New ones took a few seconds a carb, easy peezy.

try warming them in boiling water prior to fitting

I have used a hairdryer ( over to you stevew ) to soften them worked a treat

I've had the hairdryer in the airbox until I could hardly touch them with no luck, there's no finger room to get them over the carbs and they keep pushing back into the box, but I think Adirain is right, I'll have to get some new ones. But won't NOS ones be just as petrified? Could do with some brand new pattern ones being available.

I remember mention of using acetone to soften rubber, but would not know if this is a good idea ?

I'll give it a go tomorrow, I'll try putting them in the washing machine too, also heard that works for rubber, but they seem to be made of some kind of plastic.

Clung to my originals for 8 years stubbornly.
8 years of misery and sitting on the frame with feet on handlebars wrenching the bastard airbox backward down the frame to get another millimeter.
Be good to yourself and buy some new ones. I did and it has changed my outlook. Carbs off and on in ten minutes!

Yep buy new ones, I got so peeed off trying to get them onto the airbox/carb when I put gsxr11 carbs on my A2 I gave up after sticking screwdriver thru pinky(ouch) Ordered new ones off Huddy Kwack, took the old ones down the bottom of garden set them on bricks and shot them with me old air rifle, daft thing was where I hit each one it shattered yep definitely not flexible, still have the old air rifle ha ha!
