i've just bought a bike and the last owner has part polished the aluminium frame, got bored and stuck carbon fibre protectors over to cover up his bodge.
If i leave it long enough will it oxidise back to its original condition, can it be restored??
If you leave it it will oxidize to a nice powdery finish so best leave the carbon on or invest in Autosol.
The original finish was clear anodise and you will never reproduce it as the original alloy extrusion marks have been polished out.
there is a specialist paint process to reproduce the brushed aluminium process that was on most yamaha r1/r6 the dealership i worked for had many accident repairs to deal with . they became a member of the MVRA lots of these bike where written off because of scrapes to the frames + swing arm + they had a list of repair specialists to repair the frames + you could not tell the difference
there's an article in last months practical sportsbike magazine where they had a go at putting a polished alloy frame back to standard the results did'nt look to bad they used scotch pads and acf50.
hope this helps john
