Hi , New to Z1, I have older bikes (Matchless) new (RG250). I am putting my Z1A back on the road purchased some time ago and put into storage. for 10 years. I have resolved various other issues but the gears seem very clunkie. ie wont go into gear without a rev or running. When I put into 1st the bike jerks forward. I am use to this but not as bad. The clutch seems to be fine and I have adjusted I think correctly. I am wondering if I am trying to resolve a problem that does not exist or if I have an issue and someone could point me in the right direction.
Many thanks
Steve

Quite normal for z range not to go through gears until engine is running. The jerking sounds like clutch is dragging, could be that after standing for so long that some of the fibre plates have gummed too the steel plates. This has happened to me and you have too strip clutch out and replace the fibre plates if they are too bad and started to delaminate.
Replacing plates isn't too expensive and you can even do it without dropping the oil if you lean bike on its side.

Hi steve, i recently purchased a z900 that lurched forward slightly when engaging 1st.
50-60 miles later (mostly motorway i.e. Top gear not using the clutch)
The clutch was slipping like f**k.
Clutch plates just been changed and although usual zed clunk, theres no lurching.
Could be the answer to change the plates?
