US spec headlight

#1 PostAuthor: wilsonsjw11 » Fri Apr 19, 2013 8:13 pm

Will a bike wearing a US spec sealed beam type headlight fail it's MOT as the dip beam will look the wrong way :?:

Steve

No,
Just stick a bit of tape on it.
My black zed has one on & always goes through the MOT

The guy that tests mine usually does it for me.

:D

Yes, but as 'puddin says, the black tape trick will be OK.
Once you get to know your MOT tester, they will do it for you (ie turn a blind eye!)

You shouldn't have to mask off the light either . I imported my bike in 2004 and its passed several MOT's with a US spec sealed beam. Although the l wouldn't like to ride in the dark :?? .Take it to a sympathetic MOT station

Steve,

Both my bikes have original STANLEY USA sealed beam units and both have always passed MOT with no problems.

Tester said it is something to do with how the dip works on those - made it still ok over here.

You have the adjuster on the rim if it needs a tweak anyhow.
