Has anyone ever bought any parts directly from Japan?
I'm looking at this extended tail piece... http://www.motobike.jp/product/2198 as I like the look of it on my Z1R project, but its 'kin expensive for what it is.
Does anyone in the UK do stuff like this? If I bought one, is there anyone on the forum who could use it to make replicas I could sell to offset the cost?
Fred

I have bought parts directly from Japan. Try japan.webike.net as they sell all PMC, Yoshi, Moriwaki etc. Site is in English and prices should come up in GBP (if they dont there is a button on top right corner to change location and currency). Remember to add import duties etc to your final price. They are good and very fast.
Other person to try is Moriwaki Man (aka Drew Jonsen). If you are on Facebook you will find him as the Unobtainium group. He's a Brit that lives in Japan and sources and ships home rare and exotic parts for a small fee. He's super helpful and seems to be very well connected.
Neither are "cheap" though but quality is very high.

I have bought lots of stuff from Japan, including from motobike.jp. Everything has arrived OK and undamaged, so it's not as risky as it might seem. I generally use Drew Jonsen now as he is very helpful in tracking stuff down, you get a photo of what you have bought before he ships it and if it's in Japan he can source it. He is competitive with other suppliers especially if you don't get stung by customs. He is a Kawasaki enthusiast and my project would quite literally have been impossible without him.
Most motobike.jp stuff is from well known brands like PMC, so you have other options except for the official UK agent for PMC who is comatose.
Beware the translation/advice on the webike website as the technical information can be wrong. I have bought stuff which they said would fit a Z900 (but it didn't) and have also bought stuff which they said wouldn't fit and it did.
Generally speaking the quality of Japanese parts is in a different league to European stuff. I haven't bought any fibreglass parts but PMC/Doremi moulded ABS side panels are fantastic quality, as good as modern factory OE parts.
