Chris,
I will need the m14 x 1.25. aluminium hard anodised or a copper coated that is suitable for an aluminium head.

# 2 Plug on my 1075 has had a previous repair, I just got it out this evening.

The previous repair looks to be an insert & not a helicoil, not sure what make.

If the standard timesrt is too small, I will need a bigsert for previous repaired holes.

But I wont know if the standard timesert will hold until I try one.

So my thought is to try the standard first.

I am going to try this with the head in place

Thanks for all the replies gents.

WURTH - £245 for the kit & this includes a variation of inserts.

I spoke with a local company in Aberdeen "The Aberdeen Head shop" - aptly named eh !!

They will carry out the job for £50 p/hr + 312 for the insert. The man reckons it is only a 1 hour job. So I am taking the bike in on Saturday.

glad you're sorted.

I'll still ask Simon for a price for inserts etc so others have a point of reference.

Yeah Chris that would be a good idea.

I had my bike into Aberdeen Head shop this morning.
The owner- an older guy was extremely knowledgeable.
I had the bike on the trailer, removed the tank and he got to work.

He picked up that my #2 plug that had been timeserted before - had been done by an "amateur" as the repair had not been done square to the head. :|

He used a bigsert which has the same unfinished thread at the bottom as the timeserts, but these have an additional "tang" that once fitted cuts into the ally making 100% positive that it wont back off.
This is because the plug now seats on the top hat part of the bigsert & not the head.
The #2 piston was set at TDC + bit, just so the piston was on the start of the down stroke, but with the valves still closed.
Once he retaped the hole using a molybdenum grease to catch any swarf.
He shone a torch with a little gizmo that showed the inside of the cylinder - not a spec of swarf could be seen anywhere :D :D

To be 100% sure, once the repair was complete, the bike was fired up with #2 plug removed.(just to blow anything that was hiding inside.)

All in the work took around 1 hour & a total cost of £70

Well worth it Iwould say.

Got the bike home & had it out for a little around the industrial estate as its still no MOT or tax.

Going very well.

Happy bunny again

spoke to my mate today

he can sell the inserts BUT he doesn't do the kits with the tool so unless you live in Herts not a lot of use.
:(

Inserts are £8 but you'll need to find someone who can fit so probably not much help

oh well.............. :??

It was worth a try Chris.
It is still a bit of a lottery finding a garage that knows bike heads as well as the car & industrial types.

I was lucky the old guy who did mine was an ex biker,
