Z1000 J1 wont come up the box

#1 PostAuthor: tuck257 » Sat Mar 16, 2013 8:45 pm

Got my zzr1100 sorted and now runs fine, so the Z1000 j1 can now come onto the lift.
I bought this with a few problems, the main problem is it wont come up the gear box, 1st but not up to 2nd etc.
Now if my memory serves me correct, is there not a safety device to stop you going through the gears while stood still, ie on stand.
If this is correct, what is preventing me fron gearing up, is it a spring, ball bearing, clip?
Im going to take engine out to give it an overall so splitting it is no problem, just need to know what im looking for in the gearbox section.

Cheers

There is a ballby in the gear cluster somewhere - but if you can whip the plugs out, and spin the rear wheel in 1st it should go into 2nd

That unique point is the patented Kawasaki Neutral Finder
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Cure with the zzr, took carbs off, stripped down, put componants into my ultrasonic cleaner, reset all carbs to standard set, made sure air box was leak proof, if you know what i mean, fired up, ballanced carbs, runs fine.
In other words carbs were blocked, kick me in the head and tell me to do what i thought in the first place.

There are three small lockout bearings in the 4th gear output to prevent second and upwards being selected at a standstill.
They are mainly there so that neutral can be selected easily from first gear and to prevent second being selected inadvertantly in the process.
The cluster needs to be stripped to remove them.

Why do you want to remove them.
Fitting an airshifter or planning bumpstarts ?.

unless you have to strip the engine for some other reason i would leave it alone after all it is a system that is used in every kawasaki roadbike even today like the zzr1400
