Exhaust collars

#1 PostAuthor: ricky13 » Tue Mar 05, 2013 4:57 am

Hi
I am confused
Which way do the 2 half collars fit on to exhaust headers
They seem to go only one way but when I fitted them and tightened them up the exhaust was still blowing at the head outlets
I have fitted new seals as well
Many thanks again

A pic would be good
Ricky

are the exhaust clamps bottoming out against the cylinder head? if they are you will need 2 exhaust gaskets in each port. slide the clamps away from the head + make sure the exhaust pipe is sitting square in the exhaust port

Ricky, if the half collars are new (repro's), I have noticed they sometimes have to be ground a little on the edges, to make them a nice fit in the exhaust flange recess.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread.

I am just about to refit my exhausts but did not pay attention when I took the pipes off as I just assumed it would be like my ZXR & KH.......then the shells fell out...

I have looked on the parts diagram and it shows the shells inserted first then the gasket and the pipe is clamped by the finned bracket. Is this correct as I was thinking the gasket would go in first like my other babies. But the more I think about it the parts diagram does make sense................ :confu

Gaskets first, then exhaust downpipes, then the half circle collars, then the clamps. regards Adrian.
