Gpz1100b2 brake discs

#1 PostAuthor: pluto » Tue Feb 19, 2013 5:36 pm

Does anyone know where I can get a new set of good quality front discs for my bike? The originals are scored and a gentle skim will put them below the wear limit thickness and still leave them with only half the pads making contact. I want the discs to look like the originals which rules out EBC discs.
I contacted zpower and was told b1 discs are smaller (270mm against 280mm) and that mine are the same as z1100r discs which are unavailable in the original style.
Thanks
Dave

Kent cams, list EBC discs. For some bizarre reason EBC Discs from Kent cams are cheaper than from EBC direct ?

This guy sell / breakes gpz900R bikes and the discs are 280mm and bolt straight on.
I think these are re-manufactured to pattern by him in cast iron and will stop you on a sixpence.
I have some originals on my J1 which he also sells second hand.
I have seen on ebay someone in Hull selling pattern J discs and also a seller called impspares or somesuch who does them as well but cant vouch for the quality.

Found it; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-Z100 ... 2303e0bb5d

But these will be 270mm, perhaps they also do B2 type!!!

I think, I still have a good set kicking about, as I converted to 300mm disks and other calipers on the original front forks.

Thanks for all your responses,
I found that most companies offering new B2 discs were in fact selling B1 discs.
I have decided that my brakes need to work effectively and what they look like really doesn't matter! I will order a set of EBC discs tomorrow and hopefully fit them at the weekend.
Cheers
Dave

Did you get the discs and fit them, I would be interested in how they are as I need really to buy new discs for my z1100R.

I have at least one spare set of 280mm disks, which I don't intend to use as I now run full floating 300mm disks on my Z1000J (with very late 1100ST frontend)

Cheers,
Greg

Discs are now on and i have fitted HH ebc pads. Still bedding in but brakes are far better than they were.
I ordered the discs from zpower as they were the cheapest, and the discs arrived promptly, however the disc bolts would not fit in to the counter bore on the discs. I contacted EBC directly, they looked at their technical drawings and admitted the discs were machined incorrectly. They sent a new set the next day which are stainless steel instead of the horrible yellowy colour. They also let me keep the original ones they sent (which would fit very happily if the disc bolts had 2mm machined off the outside edge)
A bit of hassle but a very good company to deal with.

I'm sure that the twin disc set up fitted to the 1979 Z500 and 1980 Z400J/550 were taken direct from the GPz1100B2.
I remember this as I bought a Z500 new back then, and one of the selling points were that the brakes were nicked from it's big brother.
