Hi guys been out of it with a hernia + surgery for a few weeks, but now back riding.
I have picked up this thread owing to a similar problem, but I dont have an oil cooler this time, so I fear the worst.
I have put in the Z (about 500 miles ago) Putoline semi 10w40. Bike was OK to start with only minor oil usage, but is now at the levels of this thread approx 1/3 litre per 100 miles. Is it the oil, or the bike that is the question.
Before a knee jerk lest take the engine apart, I am asking could it be anything else, or are there any other things I could check?
It runs bloody well, accererates well, cruises ast 80 to 90 with no smoke at all, on start up or when running. Someone has followed me and no smoke is noted. Plugs are good, in fact perfect except one which is slighlty sooty (rich running carb?) but not oily.
Gear box drags a bit when bike is warmed up.

a raging thirst for oil?

Jon, the only thing I can think of is to check your air-box filter and see if there is any oil saturation, Also check the breather and look for an accumulation of oil. I have seen air-boxes with 1/2" oil in the bottom and the filter absolutely soaked in oil, caused through the breather system not working. (It's a long shot!)
