Are there any MOT experts out there who can help? I am thinking of fitting a headlight to my 1976 Z900 special that doesn't have a sidelight. The bike is a US import and I will need an MOT to get it registered for the first time. (I already have a dating latter.) Is a sidelight an MOT requirement? And would fitting daytime running lights count as an acceptable alternative to a side light?

I am fitting a motogadget m-unit which controls all the electrical functions. It only turns the low beam light on after you have finished with the starter motor, i.e. when the engine is running. It's a tiny little box which replaces virtually all the relays and fuses. You just need an external starter relay, a fused supply straight from the battery and another relay if you want a headlamp flasher function. More info here:
