Engine Paint

Don't shoot me, but has anyone got a picture of a Zed engine painted in gloss black
My J has always been a swine to keep clean, so my thinking is that gloss will wash down more easily. I intend to use the bike and I don't want it to look too scabby after a few months. I've got Plasti Kote bbq paint at the ready but thought I'd ask here first before using it.

RedZee, I think it would work. I've seen some painted with Pot-bellied Stove paint. You will, as with other paints, need a good preparation.

Pj1 satin (if you can get it ) or alternatively Sperex/Simoniz Tough black is the next best thing.
It is petrol/solvent resistant once cured/baked.
See pages 6 'n' 7 of my cafe project for the results using the Tough black.

Never heard of Pot-bellied Stove paint. Will have to look this up. I am sure its good stuff.

I've read your thread before and thought the stud protection idea was brilliant. Must admit, I didn't take much notice of the painting bits at the time. Great finish that is, smooth enough to keep clean, but not too gloss that it looks plasticky (is that a word?). As for PJ1, unless someone on here has the entire worlds stock stashed away and is willing to sell it looks like the Simoniz Tough black is the way forward.

There's some PJ1 satin on Ebay now but it's £15 plus £5 postage.
It was illegal to sell so looks like the labeling problem has been sorted hopefully.
Should start seeing it more often and the price should go down to sensible levels again.

try halfords engine paint,think it comes in gloss,matt and satin.
have it on my down pipes as well as engine and all seems good,cheap too

Yes ,i can vouch for the halfords engine enamel satin black. Its good stuff and go,s on nice with a good quality brush. I have also used it on a couple of sets of wheels i have refurbed as its a good match to the original. Good preperation and take your time and you will have a result mate.

You wont get better than Plastikote, do all colours, good prep and clean down, always use that on my engines, cheaper option than most and looks and last, if you use it warm up the engine cases and barrels, head with a heat gun, when you spray a coat dry it with a heat gun,
