Does anyone know please whether the neutral locating plunger in the crankcases which presses into the selector drum can be accessed and removed through the sump ?
A recently rebuilt engine, which runs fine , no other gearbox problems ( no sticking, jumping, missed selections, and the selector shafts were checked straight before rebuild ) , doesn't precisely drop into neutral every time. It is always close ( so not engaged in first or second ) but looking through the neutral switch hole, you can see that the drum stops slightly off the correct place, either left or right depending whether you came from 1st or 2nd.
Either the plunger housing has come loose ( i doubt, it had threadlock and a good tab washer holding it ) , or maybe the spring has weakened after many years of storage left in gear.
Any input welcome.
