Slipping clutch

#1 PostAuthor: Robw » Sun Jul 08, 2012 7:49 pm

Hi All, just returned from a great weekend at Mallory and my clutch slips at 6500rpm. The clutch plates etc are new, but the engine is tuned. What's the best solution, I thought about fitting stronger springs? If so where can I get them from.
Cheers Rob

Debbens do the 10 or 15% uprated springs, i forget which.
You can also put in another plain plate to preload it.
Which way round have you put the plates.
Genuine ones go in a particular way round.
Non original ones can also be helped a little by careful orientation.
Is the clutch basket baggy on its centre sleeve?
As paul says which type of oil?
Take it thats its' the 1000R!

Get mine off ebay for around a tenner a set depending on model.

Here's some EBC , around 10% stronger.

I fitted a genuine new clutch basket and plates only a couple of 1000 miles ago, so I hope it's alright. I will strip it down during the week to check to see if anything is baggy.

Semi synthetic oil has the same effect as fully synthetic on the clutch - when I tried it, the clutch didn't actually slip as such, but it was noticeable on gear changes that it sort of slipped into the next gear, no matter how fast the lever went out. Personally, I'd try an oil and filter change before getting onto the expensive stuff.

Stronger clutch springs.

As a warning-I fitted stronger clutch springs to my Z1000 and the clutch pushrod and release bearing welded themselves to the inside of the mainshaft!Big job.Debben supply a needle roller clutch lifter which is well worth the asking price.

Hi, it has gone occasionally else where ,especially when I am acclerating fast, but mainly it has been going when thrashing it out of the Devils elbow. Mainly, I think due to the bike being ridden like I stole it :)
