Starter clutch bearing

A friends Z1000 has a problem with his starter slipps. So my first guess was that the starter clutch needs a check. But when removing the engine cover the gear turns fine at one direction (as it should) but gives away nasty noices.

So, where can I get a hold of a new starter clutch bearing? (number 31 on the microfiche on kawasaki.com, but ends there - the list below exludes no 31)
Measures if I should check with my local bearing shop?

if it is the needle roller bearing which fits into the big starter free wheel it is still a valid part

FreddaA', The usual problem with these starter clutches are in the three cylindrical balls and the surface they drive on. It is most unusual for that needle roller roller bearing to go! These cylindrical balls are readily available and not terribly expensive. Just ensure the surface of the large wheel has not been damaged or scored.

if the starter is not engaging it is probably what garn has explained it is very rare that the needle bearing would need replacing
