Choke help.

#1 PostAuthor: hog370 » Tue May 29, 2012 7:19 pm

I am having problems with low speed running on my z900, the two lower exhausts pop at tick over, I have checked air screw settings, leaks around airbox and inlet rubbers and also exhaust leaks.

The bike ticks over great and only has a slight throttle hesitation about 20mph when accelerating, one thing I have noticed is that the choke does not shut as far as other z900 I have seen even though they seem to feel fully shut, please see pic, that's as far up as it will go.

Bike drives great through rest of rev range and only has slight vibration about 70 mph , any help would be great.

The choke lifters often stick and the only real rememdy is to take them out and free them up.

Had a similar problem with my MK2.
Check to see if you have sooty plugs.
The hesitation at low speed could be due to worn needle jets making the bike over rich at low speeds.
This allows fuel through the main jet when it should mainly be coming via the pilot mixture system.
