A4 alternative carb suggestions?

#1 PostAuthor: pablo » Mon May 21, 2012 9:14 pm

I've heard so much about different carbs that are easy to fit and set up on a Z900 A4 - does anyone have actual first hand recommendations?

I've got a Yoshi style pipe now, so I reckon a bit of extra breathing space is required!

if you're after cheap upgrade, I've swapped mine (A4 26mm) with z1R or Z1000ST 28mm carbs and it is an improvement, there is a nice wave of torque at 4-6k rpm, I'm running unknown shorty 4in4 and K&N filter with airbox

Sounds interesting! Do they offer an improvement in the leaking problems that the original carbs have? I guess the Z1-R carbs go straight on, without alteration?

yes they go srtaight on and look the same as A4 ones apart from the idle screw being underneath, obviously you might need to check the jetting, mine don't leak, but A4's didn't either so best replace the gaskets/valves

I have 28mm Z1R carbs on my A4, and is running on standard pipes - all seems ok: no leaks or problems.

Cheers

Been running Z1R 28mms for 50k miles no problems
Only 1 fuel pipe to these carbs so you need to block 1, if your tap feeds for 2 , and for safety I bored out the fuel feed brass pipe in the tap , where the fuel hose pushes on, an extra 1mm width will make the single feed much more likely to feed what the carbs need , without making the brass too thin. drill it in 0.5 mm increments with the tap in bits and it's easy.
( or use a Z1R tap)
can't remember the current jets but John Browse was helpful i seem to remember
