Croakey horn

#1 PostAuthor: kiwiz » Wed Jun 27, 2007 10:09 pm

The horn on my J has a somewhat strangled sound and as I have to pass a vehicle roadworthiness inspection it needs to work; not that I am a big horn user.

I removed both horns and found that they seemd to have an adjustment screw/nut on one side. I made a couple of turns with the horns connected to directly my battery using a couple of leads and adjusted till the note sounded just right. So far so good

Remounted these on the bike and tried the horn button. Switch area started to smoke which looked none to healthy

Am I best to trash the origiansl and go for some new cheap Jap accessories or can these actually be adjusted without frying my wiring?

Check/clean the switch first, you may find that is the problem.
Four pipes rule, anything else is second best.

Those adjusters don't do anything to the electrical side
The screw moves against the disc inside to change the resonance/tone
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

The horns on my old Z900A4 stopped working for no apparent reason, I adjusted the adjusters and the horns worked perfectly.

Thanks guys,

Decided to replace the originals with neat little black pattern jobs costing next to nothing. Problem solved.
