im thinking cams.its a thought i had today after about 6hrs

when the tool is correctly positioned it does not hold the valve fully open. when you turn the crank so the edge of the bucket is located on to the heel of the tool the valve should be a few degrees of its maximum lift

if the engine turns over ok without the valve tool inserted it must be a problem with the tool. have you measured how much of the valve stem is above the collets. have you done any work to the valves or seats?

have put in new valves and new seats cut.
exshausts need reshiming but not to far out and one off the in lets do not need changing
keep thoses wheels turning

all sorted.It seams what i could feel was the chain getting abit tight and not piston hitting valve. :oops: :oops:
