Vacuum gauges

#1 PostAuthor: DaveZ1 » Tue Apr 03, 2012 8:53 pm

I wonder if there is anyone in the north east area who would be kind enough to lend me a set of vacuum gauges to sync my carbs?
I dont mind a bit of travelling (within reason) so there would'nt be any postage to worry about.
Just about finished my first Z1 resto (Daves Z1A project) and fired her up for the first time the other day so just need the mixture
checking and the cabs sync doing. Any pearls of wisdom and tips out there on this subject would be gratefully accepted :up
Should I also invest in a Gunson colourtune or play it by ear? for setting the idle mixture. Cheers Dave

If you are going to invest in a colour tune, why not invest in balancers instead they are not much more expensive, if you are running standard jets and airbox your mixture should not be far out.

Dave, Just got a colourtune 10 minutes ago, £24.99 from Halfords, went halfs with GPRD who is also in York. We are looking at going halfs on a set of guages as well, is York too far for you? Jim

Hello Jim, have seen your help post for which vac gauges to use and I agree the morgan tube type look favorite.
I might just bite the bullet and go buy a set myself just seems a bit of a waste spending fifty odd quid on kit that
spends most of its life collecting dust
Went on Halfords website and it looks like they only sell colour tune kits for 10mm and 12mm plugs :??
Did you get yours from a local branch :?:
