cam chain fitment.

#1 PostAuthor: andyb1962 » Sat Feb 11, 2012 10:18 am

just a general question as the cam chain is now fitted.
Is there supposed to be a "guide" near the crank to help when initially fitting the chain. I chose the soft link option.
Any way eventually we managed it.
many thanks to Pete for your help.
just need to fine tune the timing now and she's ready.

Doesn't exactly "fill you with confidence" about anything else the manual might say.

I will stick my neck out and say that the direction shown is correct as the chain comes up at the front of the engine and then goes down at the back of the engine where the tensioner is to take up the slack ?

I would quietly pull my neck back in very slowly so no one notices :ws

Engine runs clockwise looking from the right hand side.as pictured.

Chain is pulled taut at front of engine as the crank pulls it down, Slack is then on the return side (rear) where the tensioner does its job.
