Selling a bike + buyer is in Australia & wants me to cost for paking & export....

the packing. you could visit you local bike dealer + ask for one of the metal crates that they arrive in the UK i did this for a mate who exported a zx12 to Spain. you could also contact rick Brett

I've sent a bike out to Oz and fetched it back a few years later. I got an old packing base (from a H****y) off a dealer for free. I used Pickfords both ways using a 'part container shipment' to keep the cost down. This was 16 years ago but might be worth asking. They did a great job and sorted the customs at both ends and delivered right into my garage!! Great service.

After reading of all his grief with this on another forum, I would suggest that you get the buyer to sort all this side of things - or find a 'more local' buyer.

Unless you're a registered business dealer I could imagine it getting very 'complicated'.

Mark - thats a good idea. You will not get away with borrowing tea chests and other peoples packing cases today.
You have to make a purpose built case and worse still, you will have to certify the origins of the timber, that it has been preservative treated and if they find a bug in the timber it will get refused entry/quarantined.

Hi Gents,

Make sure that the buyer has approval from Aussie customs, if he does not he has to apply on the pre 1989 rule, cost $50 and takes 3 weeks.

It will cost $1,000 to ship including packing, get him to contact this bloke he was really good kirk@simpsons-uk.com

There are no landing taxes as the bike is pre 1989, he will just have to pay GST on the insurance and shipping cost.

All you need to do is be there to hand the bike over.

Being English I have a UK bank account so just tranfered the funds prior to collecting the bike, he might have to send a money order.

The whole thing is quite simple for the seller just takes time, my bike still not left due to waiting for the container to be filled.
