Best HT Lead run/route

#1 PostAuthor: njwmct » Sat Dec 17, 2011 4:32 pm

Z1000 MKII with Dyna Coils & Taylor Leads- 90 degree plug caps for 1&4 / 135 degree plug caps for 2&3
As the HT leads come out of the front of Dyna Coils
Has anyone got a photo of the best way to run/route the plug leads?

Njwmct, You have struck on a good qood question.
When these Dyna Coil spouts are pointing upwards and towards the front, they cause the leads to be too long.

Your selection of plug caps is Ok, however, I believe you need "Right angle" Coil caps. These bend the leads straight out of the coil, so that you don't have to form a natural arc for the lead, which occupies most of the horn area. I have purchased these coil caps as an integral part of the lead, hence, you may not be able use the Taylor leads to achieve the same advantage, in reducing the overall length of the leads.

I have heard of guys using these coils spouts facing backwards to the rear of the bike, I have not seen a good method of connecting them.

Be careful if you have a braced frame, that bracing does not get in the way of the coils.

I have DYNA coils on my Z1000A2, coils facing backwards and I have heat wrapped connections to coils - to avoid shorting out.
Unfortunately unable to photo, as my bike is at Debben Performance, Ringwood, (engine rebuild) at present.
