BROKEN EXHAUST STUD

#1 PostAuthor: kenny z9fighter » Thu May 17, 2007 7:35 pm

HI TO ALL
GOT A 74 Z900 A4
WHEN FITTING THE EXHAUST
I STRIPPED THE THREADS ON ONE OF THE CYLINDER HEAD EXHAUST PORTS
DRILLED AND TAPPED IT,FITTED A HELICOIL
PUT THE EXHAUST,TIGHTENED THE NUT AND IT PULLED OUT THE HELICOIL DAMAGING THE CASTING
HAS ANYONE TRIED ANY OF THE CHEMICAL METALS AVALIABLE?
I DONT KNOW IF IT CAN BE WELDED AND REDRILLED
I DONT REALLY WANT TO TAKE THE HEAD BACK OF AS IT HAS BEEN FRESHLY REBUILT AND IS NOW A 1075 WISECO BIG BORE
SO WOULD MEEN A NEW HEAD GASKET ETC
ANY IDEAS?

Any decent engineering shop can weld it & then tap it out, but its head-off time by the sound of it

Try & google for heat resistant repair compound, there must be something available in this day-and-age :?: Some of those instant metals are good
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
