Anyone got any good ideas for removing the generator rotor from a Z900A4 when you don't have access to the Kawasaki tool?
The Haynes manual suggests using the rear wheel spindle but mine wont fit. The wheel spindle seems to be M18 fine and the thread in the rotor is smaller, looks to be about M16, not sure of the pitch.

Generator Rotor Removal

Hack, you'll have to get a bolt to fit..... and take your time with it, just tighten bolt and hit end smartly with a hammer a couple of times. Re-tighten bolt and hit again.. etc..! Remember, the rotors are quite soft and you don't want to loosen it from the middle threaded section. I did find a bolt in me 'box-of-bits' and if you're really stuck, I can post it 2 u for a lend!!!!

When I studied the picture in the Haynes manual it became clear that they meant the swingarm shaft not the rear wheel spindle (why am I not suprised!!)
Not having a 16mm bolt to hand I was forced to bite the bullet and try the swingarm shaft and it worked ok, as you described, just keep tightening and tapping.
Next time I'm ordering any nuts & bolts I will be sure to get a HT 16mm fine bolt.
Oh well, all's well that ends well.

The best way of stopping the rotor turning, without damaging it is:
Use a nylon tie strap, wrap it around the rotor a couple of times and secure the free end to a part of the frame/footrest. Now you can turn bolt with as much force as you can muster, with no damage to rotor!!!! Works in reverse too, so you can do it up!!!
