Exhaust pipe wrap

#1 PostAuthor: corpy » Sun Nov 06, 2011 6:39 pm

Please could some kind soul tell me all about the exhaust pipe flexible wrapping that I see in photos in bike and trike mags?
It isn't very attractive to me but much better than spending ££££ on new pipes for my 1981/2 KZ1100 shaft.
Does it have an adhesive base ie is it melted onto the hot pipes?
Can it be bought in black, or how is it stained black?
Is it tied off with, say, a turn or two of copper wire?
Does it last forever?
Thanks

Different types - but not idea for "bodging-up" a repair to a knackered exhaust :|

Its usually asbestos - non-adhesive & best held in place with s/s straps.....

Try GOOGLE and do your research - lazy whipper-snapper

On the right bike it looks cool

Thanks, Pigford. It is a strange experience to be called a whippersnapper at the age of 76!
In will try Googling it under 'exhaust wrap' and see what turns up.
The reason for asking the forum was to to be told the sorts of practical things that don't appear in the adverts.

It was just my usual atempt at "humour" - not always the funniest & hard to get across on line

I'd rather be riding my Z1 thinking about God than sitting in a church thinking about my Z1..

Ceramic fibre wrap.
You can buy this from any good insulation suppliers like "Sheffield Insulation"

Thanks for all that.
As you said, it is all on Youtube. No special techniques required then. I rather fancy the black.
