z1 frame dating
hi, i have almost built my z1. the sticker on the front says manufacture date 1 73. i need to register the bike as it is an import. is this enough dating evidence to get an age related plate. the american title just says 1973...
Al, I don't know much about the process in UK, however, I would think that the "Authority" would want some evidence of identification of the frame to be registered. This would be the Frame number stamped on the steering stem.
For Z1's manufactured Jan 1973, the number should be around Z1F-05000. Somehow there are records, supplied by Kawasaki, of the frame numbers associated to different years & models. I know because once, when I was short on money, I thought I would call my Z900 a Z400 for cheaper registration. The system came up with "ERROR... This is a Z900 1976".
