steve

think you may be right

balance ok - may be the mere taking it on and off may have cured it - who knows and can only live in hope!

will give it a run and then look at the head bearing angle

travelingman- do you realise that tyre was developed specifically for Harley sportsters ?
Try playing about with the tyre pressures and then head bearings, but it may just be the tread style that is doing it.

I think Zeds like the old style ribbed crossply tyres best. The ones with the tread grooves cut straight in line with wheel direction!
My monies still on tight head bearings.
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Travelingman, you said at the outset
"Replaced the head bearings and races can't say it really changed anything . I've got them as tight as I dare an still
have the bars fall from left to right with out binding"

You obviously had trouble with this wobble before you changed out the steering head bearings. I think you would have noticed a difference if this was the area of trouble, albeit, you over tightened the steering head.

See if you can get movement in that swing-arm. It is easy to check and you will feel it straight away!

Thanks for all the info guys , We are lucky over here to get original
parts . I suppose Z1 enterprise would be a good place to check for the
taper roller bearings. I'll post what find it to be .

I got the shakes too

Did you ever get this shake sorted? I got the same on my KZ1000 A2 and had it on a 100cc scooter - in both cases, if I sat further forward on the seat, the shake would stop. If I carry something on a luggage rack the shakes get worse.
