Brake Help!

#1 PostAuthor: Buckle » Tue Aug 16, 2011 11:23 am

At last I have managed to get back to working on the Z650 and am making a start on the front brakes. The master cyl and front caliper need rebuilding but I have run into a couple of problems: The master cylinder does not appear to be a Kawasaki one - unless anyone can ID it?

The caliper has a couple of bits missing from it ( Some one was riding it like this  ) One I had in stock but the other is the metal shaft plug (Pt No. 43088-002) that should go in the back of the caliper body, through which the sliding mount bolts go. (The two small holes in the back of the caliper body - see pic)

Can anyone assist with either a plug or a naffed caliper I can raid a plug from please?[/img]

I wouldnt mess about with what you have there !!! You can buy new replica master cylinders for a reasonable price and I wouldnt try to build a caliper out of bits from various calipers which may or may not be the same. There are plenty of bits on ebay at reasonable prices which would be better than what you have there. Not sure what that master cylinder is originaly off ??
Just an oppinion but I wouldnt take any chances where brakes are concerned.

What you on about Steve ?

The man just wants a big fat washer, of which I have one spare if needed.

Although I wonder how on earth that caliper worked with one bolt loose

I think the replica cylinder will be the way to go - has anyone used one of the ones available from Wemoto?

Chris,

The caliper "worked" because it had been bodged with a couple of flat washers and a flanged nut - which is alloy!!! Correct parts on the left, bodgy bits on the right See pic below

If you have a spare plug / washer, and a nut if possible, I'd be right grateful - let me know how much you want and I'll PM my address. Cheque or Paypal Sir? :D
