You'd probably get away with drilling at 6mm then running a taper M8 x 1.0 tap in as far as needs be. With a little bit of either PTFE or studlock this should be fine mate.
I might have that tap, I'll look in the garage.

That's an unusual size, but yes NPT is american
The tap and drill chart is on this link
http://engineershandbook.com/Tables/npttap.htm
With C size drill being 6.10mm
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brooke-HSS-PS ... 20bb7bd5ef
And taps availailbe here
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/T24-1-STR-1-1 ... 27b9225c85
Personally i would drill it the correct sizes, being brass or an alloy a little thread binding will likely break the thread off as you tighten and you need it to screw into upto the flange
Loctite threadlock or studlock the same thing to seal it in place

Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, cigar in one hand, beer in the other, body used up, totally worn-out and screaming, "WOO HOO, what a ride!"
