Dyna S ...Rotors

#1 PostAuthor: Garn 1 » Sat Jan 23, 2010 4:32 pm

Talking about the Dyna-S replacement for contact points, for Z1, Z1A, Z1B and Z900-A4.
I think most of us will agree that the "Pin" in the end of the crank-shaft is located exactly in the same position for all of the above models.

The only difference in any of these models, regarding ignition, is the use of a different set of advance & retard mechanisms. One model, the Z1 has a range of 5 degrees to only 20 degrees advance, the others have a range of 5 degrees to 40 degrees.

Now, let's consider STATIC timing only. So the above difference in advance mechanisms does not come into the equation.
Why then, do we have different rotors?.. Some marked 3, some marked 3A and others with no markings. And they are all slightly different. In my opinion, one should do all!

We are advised to change from one to the other to bring the DynaS frame or backing plate into the centre of the adjustment. This, in my opinion, is a manufacturer's error and should be corrected, so that one rotor will do all the above models.
