how the hell do you fit a new one??? seems too tight

They are tight, ensure you have got all of the old seal out.
Four pipes rule, anything else is second best.

Try heating up the housing with a hair drier and apply a small amount of oil on the outer face of the new seal. Not sure if this is correct but it worked a treat for me when I replaced my fork seals. Also make sure you haven't damaged the housing when you removed the old seal. Good luck :wink:

think i may have found the reason its so tight, looking around for a complete unit and found this http://www.americanclassix.com/parts/new13/IMG_0154.jpg
which is what was fitted to the bike, and i bought a new seal from zpower which i presume is to fit this https://www.z-power.co.uk/merchantmanag ... p?pID=1134 dont know which is the correct for a z1000
