see this:

is this what I have fittted to my A1?

presumably oil flows out of block into the RH arm, pushes the oil pressure plate out the way and out of the top arm (as in photo).

what is the cap with the nut for - does it undo, and if undone, what is inside? (I am guessing it is to allow the housing to be drilled)

apologies - not had a good enough look in that area.

So many questions - so little time

Oil does indeed flow up through the bit opposite the pressure switch then past the plastic switch out into the oil passage along the rear of the cylinders - up the block. Inside is just a view of the switch siting on the seat of the unit.

The nut may be to check flow - it could be a blank (as you guess) but as its a cast item, seems unlikely?

The cap is M14 x 1.5mm.

The same as the cap above the timing cover.

You could screw in something like this I suppose

There are other 14mm options and pressure ranges

thanks muchly - so is KZ1000-A1 (KZ1000) (1977)
same as UK Z1000-A1? 's gotta be, noone in the right mind would make different engine or engine parts not related to emissions for different countries, certainly not the japanese???

Essentially yes, the KZ1000-A1 is the same as a Z1000-A1.

There may be small differences (length of rear mudguard maybe)but I wouldnt know what they are.

Yes there are some differences to the U.S. models regarding emmisions but I don't think they apply until the models after the A2

I'm sure somebody will be able to correct me.
