seat covering

#1 PostAuthor: mfp-66 » Thu Aug 27, 2009 7:12 pm

what is the best material to use to cover a seat, leather or vinyl?

its a custom seat not a factory seat so buying a cover is not an option

Well in my opinion.... If you want it!
Vinyl will have a lot more give than leather, especially if it's warmed first..... Good luck.

Hi are you doing the seat or a specialist, as leather would be difficult to work and more expensive and a pig to sew. also leather would need looking after more than vinyl.
There are some good Faux leather (vinyl) on E-bay at about 20quid a sqr meter.
I have a seat that needs recovering and after alot of adding up cost and hassle decided to take it to my local friendly upholsterer.

But if cost no option and the bike is special leather is the way to go.

I once had a bike with a leather seat. It tended to let water in much more than a vinyl seat. You could wipe the seat of and ride but always got a wet arse after a little while. Go for vinyl unless the leather is thoroughly waterproofed.
