I am hoping to build a Zed thou special on a budget. It is my intention, with Ludders help, to fabricate a Harris type frame. I am assured the easiest way is to get a dog n ducked frame so you have numbers and logbook, rather than go through the pain and grief of trying to get the 'droids in the DVLA to register a brand new frame.
So any one got a fecked frame and log book they want very little for?

Hi
I never had any trouble having my Harris framed special made legal when i built it.
All I had to do was have it inspected at a DVLA Office before it was MOT'd. Admittingly the headstock had a number stamped on it (HP1053 in this case) but there was never any paper work explaining the number and the Inspector never asked. Before i built the thing I inquired at the DVLA Office in Lincoln and the chap i spoke too explained it was easier if at least some of the bike was original up to a %age. Cant recall what the figure was but when I took it to an inspector in another part of the country completely - Inverness!! No problems at all. but I built it with that originality in mind - knowing full well that modifications were allowed afterwards.
In my case the Engine, complete Front end, back wheel and brakes were the original Z1-R, and that was well over the required percentage. Oh and I kept the 1980 V reg too.
hope this helps
regards
Howie
