I need to replace the standard shocks on my ELR after 33 years!! Any one have a decent pair of the ZRX units they no longer need. Either ZRX or other with remote reservoir considered

The OE Rex shox still bring strong money. There is a set for sale on the ZRXOC but he wants 360 quid for 'em ....

The yamahaha pattern Ohlins units seem to go for less.

Ohlins .... You know it makes sense

On a big heavy ZRX, I would say yes absolutely upgrade to Ohlins, although there are better shocks than Ohlins about now. I have a monoshock Ohlins/Metmachex conversion on mine, but on a 33 year old bike that is likely still on crossply tyres - they are massive overkill. Definately so at over a grand a set .....

I would look at either a used set of OE ZRX/XJR/CB 1300 shocks, a set of new YSS shocks either standard or piggyback or a set of period Marzocchi Strada's if you can find them (I sold a set on here not long back)

Personally, I would take the new YSS option before 14 year old shox though.

If money is no object mind .... then it opens up a whole world of lovliness

Thanks Zedhead and much as I like the look of Ohlins I was having a look at the Wemoto site, as they seem to be the Uk dealers for Yss and they have reduced their YSS prices at the mo.
I used my brothers BMW fitted with a YSS mono shock for a couple of thousand kilometres of riding in the Rockies and it was brilliant so I think I will head that route

Nah, they're not. I have the 365mm Mars Chockys as mentioned above by Charlie on the back of my J and they're the perfect length. Though, Zedhead's offer on YSS shocks is awfully tempting if it's available across the board? If so the Stradas may be for sale....
Do the YSS shocks have low and high speed compression damping adjustment, or just a single adjuster for compression?

J shocks are 350 mm although you can fit 362.

You may want to consider harder springs for the heavier EU ass as apposed to the light weight Asian ones. Fact not a political statement

I believe XJR shocks are too short also - yes 330mm.

Sorry for the delayed response I was away at the classic road races at Chimay. Great offer Zedhead and I know I may end up regretting it but I may try a pair of those piggyback ones that harrythe magnum posted up. I could be throwing good money after bad but I will post back on hear my experience of them so if they are shite everyone else can avoid them

Careful, they're a 12mm top eye and you might not be able to drift the bush out, and whether you could drill it out is questionable. There was a guy selling a pair on eSkip last week that he'd bought for his CB1300 for that very reason and he wouldn't pay to send them back.

They look good on the outside, but it's intriguing what lies beneath....
