Had an eventful ride out today. The chain managed to jump a tooth and take out the primary gear transmission cover. The photo shows the large chunk that parted company sitting on the frame above my side stand.

Not only that but one of my oil cooler lines sprung a leak and, seeing as I'm running an outrigger plate, the oil had a nice easy route to my back tyre....which was fun.

Would anyone have a spare transmission cover, 14024-007, that I can purchase from them?. I think I'll machine this one to make sure I have plenty of chain clearance.

With the chain issue in mind, would anyone have any experience with making a sprung loaded chain tensioning jockey wheel? I can make something that secures to the bracing on my extended Kosman swing arm...does it have to be a toothed gear or can it be a roller?[/img]

I used to run a roller on my harris years ago. It seemed to do the business.

Paul, heres a pic of the tensioner I made & fitted to my 1170R (lost in the meltdown). It pivoted on the centrestand mounts, with a spring attached between the top mount & a couple of spare 6mm holes in the crankcases somewhere above the gearbox sprocket. It worked well, but if I were doing it again, I'd fit a bearing at the pivot point.

Saying that, I have a monstercraft item sat on the shelf for my current project.





I may have a cover, I'll try and find time to dig around. Out of interest, how many teeth are on the front sprocket?

My frame is devoid of all lugs in and around that area !!!!.....what bloody idiot did that....ahhhh yes, it was me

I'm going to use the frame cross member that once would have had the centre stand brackets and machine a body that'll clamp around that...similar position and set up to yours Steve and most probably use a roller.

If you've got a cover Steve that'll be brilliant...the sprocket is a 19 tooth 5/8" offset from Talon...courtesy of a bulk ordering from Piggy a while back

I think the one on the left is from the later J/GPZ motors & the one on the right is what you need, but it has also suffered some damage.

You're welcome to it all the same if you can use it?

What I may have left over is a new skateboard wheel complete with bearings, if you want it?

I have a spare frame that's not for road use that Padders gave me as part of a
'job lot' when I bought a JMC swingarm off him last year.
I can hacksaw the nearside center stand lug off the frame, so as
you can weld it on your frame to mount a bracket for a jockey wheel
for your chain, if that helps?

Steve, that's great buddy...many thanks. I've offered up the broken piece to the cover and taken this photograph. With the one on the right in your photo is the fixing boss, just above the clutch actuating rod, intact on yours (I can't see from the photo). It is this fixing that has caused the most damage in the incident yesterday...the oil that I thought had leaked from my oil takeoffs was actually coming out through the remains of the damaged gasket in that area. Having cleaned the oil off from yesterday and the outrigger plate removed I ran the engine and could see the oil was coming out from that area...my oil cooler takeoffs were fine.

Jay, cheers for the offer of the lug but the frames all dressed and powder coated so I wouldn't want to weld it back on. I've sketched a bracket that will still be located in that area that. hopefully, will do the job.[/img]
