Hi guys
I'm after a rear wheel spindle for a Dresda Swingarm thats fitted to my Z1R. The standard spindle is too short. Can anyone help?

If I cant find one, can anyone make one for me? Its the same as a standard spindle, just with about 1/2" extra on the threaded end.

Cheers

Fred

Hi Fred, I had a Dresda on a ltd, the standard spindle was ok, I have another somewhere I could measure if you need. Could be a cheaper alternative to having one made if its long enough?

That's interesting... only the last 1/2" or so of the threaded end sticks out when assembled so I cant get the split pin through, so it seems that the standard spindle isn't long enough. Obviously being a box section arm the total distance / length is going to be longer. I tried to get a nylock nut instead, but couldnt find one for love nor money. I think your axle will be the same as mine but if you can find it and measure it I'd appreciate it.

Cheers

Can't figure that one out Rich , it was fine on mine with the spindle that was in .
I'm assuming the spindle was standard , as now i've a standard swinging arm in the spindle isn't too long .
I have a MK11 spindle here which has a hexagon nut on one end .
I'll measure the overall length later and let you know .

294mm from from outer end of the threads to the underside of the head .

I'll check once I get 5 mins...I've no idea what could be causing the issue.... :(

Hi Fred. Measured the one from a k series ltd and it's 300mm +/- 1mm from under the head to other end. If it helps the nut is 20mm tall, and the swingarm outer width at the rear axle is approximately 265mm without adjusters. If the 6mm will make the difference you can always borrow mine to try it out.

Thanks Redbeard... the LTD axle is slightly longer, but that still wouldn't be enough to get the split pin in. I think that solution is either to go to Dresda and get an axle from them or find a Nyloc axle nut.

I've found another problem too, which might be a reason behind it... I'll stick a reply in to Z1Par and explain more

Thanks for your help.

Hmm, I've found that when I retighten the rear axle nut, the rear wheel locks...further investigation reveals that the rear caliper is seized and preventing the rear axle being tightened fully. I havent moved the bike in a while (I was waiting for Flying Tiger to sort the paintwork). I'll sort that next and see if that remedies the situation.

In a possibly similar but probably different vein .
The 650 that i've been doing lately .
Put the back wheel in the swinging arm and tightened the nut on the wheel spindle but only finger tight .
The cush drive had about 8mm movement in and out along the spindle .
I thought i'd either got the spacer the wrong way round in the cush or that i'd dropped a spacer somewhere .
Wheel back out and apart revealed nothing so put the wheel back in , no surprise that the movement was still there .
A mate came round one night and i explained it to him and showed him the play ,
He said along the lines of ' it's cos you work in such a shit tip that you've dropped a spacer and can't find it '
How bloody rude
I'm the first to admit that when i'm working it looks like i'm standing in the middle of a plane crash .
Wheel out again and a thorough search of all the carnage around me revealed nothing .
Wheel back in and this time kept on tightening the nut until it was proper tight .
The simple act of tightening had fixed it :boom
The wheel spindle end of the swinging arm must have been splayed for some bizarre reason and that's all it was .
Bloody thing made a proper monkey out of me for a few days , it just looked and felt wrong and therefore it convinced me that it was wrong

:D Yeah, my garage isn't exactly MotoGP standard either!! I'll fix the rear caliper first and see if thats holding things apart...

Thanks for your help
