CSR Tank

#1 PostAuthor: stevie g » Sun Mar 30, 2014 8:31 pm

Hi Guys, still looking for a decent CSR 1000 gas tank. Mine has untold repairs and welds. Also is the Z1000 police tank the same and will the 1000 LTD tank fit ? I know the ltd doesn't have the lug for bolting it down at the rear but if it fits I don't care. I've seen the police one on USA ebay and it has the same filler cap unlike the Ltd, again I don't care about if it's the wrong type filler, just as long as it fits. Thanks, $

Not sure, and it may well fit but I think the police tank is larger....holds more fuel.

Hi Stevie, the z1000ltd k1 (1981) model has the lug at the rear for bolting down and is likely the same underneath. I think its very similar to the csr except for the wheels..

Ah, OK thanks. Come to think of it, when I searched on USA ebay for CSR tank it sometimes says, " Also Police and K1. yea I've seen an old advert for the CSR and they were comparing it with the LTD and as you say nearly only difference was Mag wheels. $

I didn't think it would be. I suppose I could fill in the dents on my own, mind you it'll make it left hand heavy the amount I'll have to put in it, lol.

Yeah unfortunately most have seen better days. Mine had a pinhole in it and I sealed it with Por15 as a precaution after emptying a pile of hardened fuel which took hours to get out.

Mine, when I got the bike was leaking all over the place and had a ton of filler in it, so I put it to an engineer mate of mine and he spent hours getting it leak proof. It would/should have cost me nearly a days welding had I put it to an engineer I didn't know. I see plenty on USA ebay but it's the cost of shipping, and tax that's a killer. The bike ain't worth a lot but I'd like it as a hack and keep the zeph 11 for nice days and posing. So I don't wanna spend a fortune on it. Not sure if the smaller CSR tanks will fit. I bought a CSR 305 tank off a member on here but it doesn't go near it, wonder if the 650 would fit ? probably not knowing my luck. The Z1000 A1 tank won't. $

There's a pic on my ltd refresh thread of a k1 with gpz1100 bodywork, apparently it didn't take much work to fit. I have a mk2 tank that I tried just for the sake of it and it didn't fit either. The frame is similar to a J with different rake and lower seat rails so it's possible that the j/gpz b1/2 tanks would fit. Some J's had a rounded tank but prices for all these bikes are creeping up. Might be worth trying a z650 or z750 twin tank if you can get one cheap enough. The z750 doesn't have a fuel sender or tab at the back, it clamps with a rubber band and a locating pin. I have a pic of the underside if it would help. Our variants are more popular in the states so I check out kzrider now and again for help with what works and what doesn't. Or see if someone local has something you can try out before buying one maybe.

Steve,
Here is a pic of the underside of a Z1000Ltd 1978.
It may help.

Pity, I got rid of this one last year.

Thanks guys, The Z1000 a1 tank I have and that pic of the LTD would fit only the tap gets in the way. On the CSR the tap is further up towards the middle. I can live with what I have for the moment but I would like eventually to get something that doesn't look like it's out of a skip. I've got a guy in New York who got me quite a few parts for me before. Contacted him through KZRider, so maybe if nothing turns up I'll get in touch with him. I think with the LTD tank I'd have to blank off where the tap goes and try to fit one further up, but that's a pain. Z1Bman, I'll him that guy a call, thanks $
